Summary & Analysis

This bill seeks to alter the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria, 1999, to allow an independent candidate to contest for
elective positions at all levels. This will broaden the democratic process,
thereby allowing citizens who are not affiliated with any political party the
opportunity to run for public offices.

Help keep Legis360 free and independent

Legis360 makes Nigeria's legislature legible: every bill, motion and vote, in plain language, with no paywall.

Your support helps us:

  • Hold power to account. We put on record what the 10th Assembly is doing, so citizens know the public is watching.
  • Keep it free and open. No paywalls, because everyone deserves clear, unbiased information about decisions made on their behalf.
  • Keep building. Proceedings, scorecards, alerts and the Ilimi assistant all cost money to run and to improve.

We don't want to wait for a more transparent democracy to be handed to us. We want to build it now, with you.
