One area I believe deserves more attention is how accessible legislative information is to ordinary citizens.
Many people are unaware of proposed laws until they have been passed. Even where such information is available, the legal language can make it difficult for citizens to understand what is being proposed or how it affects them.
I would like to see the Lagos and Osun State Houses of Assembly adopt a more citizen-friendly approach by publishing simplified summaries of proposed bills in English and Yoruba, while creating greater awareness of public hearings through community radio, digital platforms and grassroots engagement.
People should not need legal training or personal connections to understand what their lawmakers are doing.
For me, good governance is not just about making laws; it is also about ensuring that the people affected by those laws have an opportunity to understand and contribute to them.
