Osun State should develop a policy that provides targeted intervention and support to non-focal Primary Healthcare Centres, particularly those located in underserved, rural and outskirt communities.

While focal PHCs supported through the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) receive attention to improve infrastructure, equipment, medicines and service delivery, other functional PHCs outside the focal facilities also serve communities and should not be left behind.

The policy would establish a system for identifying and prioritising non-focal PHCs based on population needs, distance to other health facilities, service utilisation, staffing, infrastructure and availability of essential medicines and equipment. Support could then be provided through state funding, partnerships and other available health financing mechanisms.

This will help ensure that people living in underserved communities can access quality and affordable primary healthcare close to where they live, regardless of whether their facility is a focal or non-focal facility. Strengthening these facilities will contribute to Osun State's efforts towards achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and the principle of leaving no one behind.

A laudable initiative towards achieving Universal Health Coverage in Osun State! Strengthening non-functional and underserved Primary Healthcare Centres through improved infrastructure, adequate staffing, essential medicines, and sustainable funding will ensure that quality healthcare reaches every community. Indeed, no community should be left behind in the journey towards accessible, affordable, and equitable healthcare for all. 👏

I strongly support this initiative. Every Primary Healthcare Centre deserves adequate funding, essential medicines, equipment, and qualified staff, regardless of its location. No community should be left behind in accessing quality healthcare. I encourage the Osun State Government to implement this policy for a healthier and better-served population. Thanks

This is a commendable and timely initiative. Strengthening non-focal Primary Healthcare Centres is essential to ensuring equitable access to quality and affordable healthcare, especially for people in rural and underserved communities. Every community deserves access to functional healthcare services, regardless of whether its PHC is a focal or non-focal facility. I encourage the Osun State Government to adopt this policy and prioritise sustainable investment in these facilities. No community should be left behind in the journey towards Universal Health Coverage. 👏👏

This is a laudable and impactful recommendation. All Primary Healthcare Centres deserve attention and support, especially those serving rural and underserved communities. Prioritising non-focal PHCs through adequate funding, improved infrastructure, essential medicines, equipment and skilled personnel will strengthen healthcare delivery and ensure that no community is denied access to quality healthcare. I commend this initiative and urge the Osun State Government to take practical steps towards its implementation for a healthier and more inclusive society. Healthcare for all, leaving no one behind!
