Many newly admitted students in Ogun State tertiary institutions face difficulties during their transition into university, including registration and clearance, finding safe accommodation, understanding school procedures, accessing reliable information and coping with the financial demands of starting university.
I propose the establishment of an Ogun Fresh Student Support and Transition Programme (OFSTP) for newly admitted students in public tertiary institutions across Ogun State.
The programme would provide every newly admitted student with a verified digital orientation package containing information on registration, fees, academic procedures, student rights, accommodation, transportation, healthcare, scholarships and emergency contacts. Each institution would also establish a Fresh Student Help Desk and mentorship system connecting new students with trained senior students and staff.
The Ogun State Government could also work with tertiary institutions to create a database of verified student accommodation and expand targeted financial assistance for students from low-income households.
The goal is to ensure that admission into a tertiary institution does not become the beginning of unnecessary confusion, financial hardship or vulnerability. Every student should have access to the information and support needed to begin their education successfully.
